The Finklea High and Loris Training School Alumni Association
*"We are a 501 (C)(3) Nonprofit Organization"*
Our story
Finklea Consolidated High School: opened in 1955 as one of South Carolina's schools established during the equalization era, when public education remained segregated. Finklea became an important secondary school for Black students from the Loris, Green Sea, Floyds, and surrounding communities. (1956 to 1970)
Our history
Loris Training School: Established in 1928, it was the first educational facility for Black students in Loris and surrounding communities, built under the Rosenwald program. Under Mr. George C. Cooper’s leadership, the school developed fully into a high school-level training school, consistently serving local Black youths until its closure in 1955, when students were moved to Finklea Consolidated High School

The History of Finklea
Finklea Consolidated High School established in 1955 has a long history that dates back to the Rosenwald program led by Julius Rosenwald and Booker T. Washington. Special Thanks to Mr. David C. Wilson of Wilson Consulting Service an Horry County Native and a graduate of Chestnut Consolidated High School. His book "A History of Finklea Consolidated High School and Loris Training School" (1930-1970) (2023) gives and excellent summary of the progression of educating Black children from the Loris-Green Sea-Floyds area and throughout Horry County.
